Junior Consultant, Nature-based Climate Solutions

Our Nature-based Climate Solutions Team is at the forefront of developing and managing climate adaptation & mitigation projects. By working closely with ministries, green finance funders, project developers, NGOs, land owners and as well as their local communities, we manage the complete registration, verification and evaluation of carbon projects to enable the issuance of emission-reduction certificates, in line with official carbon standards. Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Junior Consultant for our Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) team in Southeast Asia (SEA). In this project support role, you will oversee the design, implementation, measurement, reporting and verification processes of nature-based climate mitigation projects in the region.

Reporting directly to the project Senior Consultant, you will provide key analyst support for the Nature-based Climate Solutions Team through performing desk and on-the-ground research, interviews, documentation review, insight compilation and presentation, report writing, note-taking, and other tasks as assigned. Other areas of support include country-level and global policy review and economic modelling.


Main tasks & responsibilities:

  • Responsible for specific parts of the Project Development Team’s production of strategic and compliance documents, such as the pre-feasibility study, stakeholders consultation, Project Design Document, and Economic Models
  • Support impacts analysis and certification through research on key industry frameworks and climate policies applicable to the valuation and reporting of project impacts
  • Keep up to date with best practices in the industry and support Nusanterra on technical topics within our area of expertise
  • Update proposal/project information in the project management tool and ensure all relevant documents are accessible on the drive at any time
  • Design, organise, and conduct site visits and travel to project locations whenever needed
  • Draft invoices to be approved by the supervisor and sent to accounting for submission to clients and keep general information, milestones and cash flow in the project management software up to date
  • Support budgeting and reviewing contractual agreements for the development of new forest carbon projects and partnerships
    Participate in formal and informal networking opportunities, as requested. Disseminate knowledge internally through knowledge-sharing and communication records

Requirements:

Essential -

  • University Degree in natural resource management, forestry, ecology, climate change, environmental economics, environmental engineering, sustainability, carbon policy or other related fields required; Masters strongly preferred.
  • Min 3+ years of work experience in project management, research or analysis, bonus if tied to Forestry, Sustainability Consulting, Climate Change Mitigation/Adaptation or related fields.
  • Strong synthesis skills – experience applying research to inform business decisions. Familiar with carbon standards (VCS, CCB, Plan Vivo, Gold Standard) and methodology application/development
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the desire and ability to proactively develop new contacts in the NCS sector
  • A track record of organisational and project management work. Strong attention to detail. Ability to create and manage project plans. Hits deadlines.
  • Ability to create high-quality written documents (proposals and deliverables) in English
  • Have excellent verbal and written skills in English + Bahasa Malaysia (at least, intermediate); bonus, if you have significant international living and work experience

Desirable -

  • Experience working with local communities, NGOs and public sectors
  • Experience supporting technical projects with a diverse team of individuals and consultants.
  • National, or holder of a valid work visa in Malaysia
